Our Approach to the Science

Our approach to the science

Most supplements start with a marketing angle. KUNO starts with the biology of how the body ages — then builds focused formulas around clinically studied ingredients, dosed to match the research.

How we build every KUNO formula

Named, branded activesIdentified, third-party-tested branded ingredients — never anonymous ‘proprietary blends.’
Doses matched to the researchWhere a study used a specific dose, we aim to match it — not a fraction of it.
Mechanism firstWe explain how each compound works on a known pathway, with citations you can look up.
Honest about the limitsWhen evidence is early, observational, or mixed, we say so — on this page and on each product's science section.

Why we build for the systems of healthy aging

The leading causes of death in later life — heart disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer's, chronic respiratory disease, kidney disease and liver disease — account for most of the global mortality burden. Cardiovascular disease alone is the single leading cause, at roughly 19.8 million deaths a year (~32% of all deaths).1 A growing body of research suggests many of these conditions share common upstream drivers — among them how we sleep and how our cardiometabolic systems age.

We can't change your genes. But the everyday systems that research links to long-term health — sleep, cardiometabolic function, cellular renewal — are exactly the ones clinically studied nutrition can support. That's where KUNO focuses.

What the research shows about sleep

  • In pooled cohort studies, consistently short sleep is associated with higher all-cause mortality.2
  • Short sleep is associated with higher risk of type 2 diabetes3 and with obesity.4
  • The WHO's IARC classifies night-shift work involving circadian disruption as ‘probably carcinogenic to humans’ (Group 2A) — a classification about shift work, not ordinary sleep.5
  • Mechanistic studies link sleep to the brain's overnight clearance of metabolites including β-amyloid — early, mechanistic evidence (animal and small human studies), not proof of disease prevention.6,7
  • Under controlled viral exposure, shorter sleep has been associated with greater susceptibility to the common cold.8

What the research shows about cardiometabolic health

  • Cardiovascular disease is the world's leading cause of death.1
  • High blood pressure is common and often symptomless — an estimated 1.28 billion adults have it and roughly 46% are unaware9 — which is why the underlying systems matter long before symptoms appear.

What KUNO does — and doesn't — claim

KUNO does not claim to prevent, treat, cure, or mitigate heart disease, cancer, diabetes, Alzheimer's, or any other disease. The research above describes the conditions and the body systems involved — it is general public-health education, not a claim about our products.

What we do: build clinically studied, structure/function nutrition that supports the everyday systems — calm and healthy sleep, cardiometabolic health already within a normal range, and cellular-renewal pathways — as part of a healthy lifestyle. Always talk to your doctor about your health, and never delay or replace medical care with a supplement.
